Absolutely wonderful 1st time experience eating at Amba's Kitchen last weekend.
Being Indian myself, I find it hard to find authentic tasting Indian food locally in the Croydon area, so glad I decided to give Amba's Kitchen a try.
Amba was there himself, which made a huge difference. His is personal, charming and honest, which are all the qualities you'd hope and look for when speaking to the owner. He gave great recommendations based on my likes and dislikes and the food did not disappoint.
I can only speak for the dishes I've tried, but the lamb chops are delicious, but my favourite was the Gongoran mutton curry! Absolutely delicious and authentic. My partner had the Keralan fish curry which was lovely too. Naan breads are made fresh on site, and I appreciate the honesty about the Paratha's being made elsewhere, which not many owners would admit. Glad it steered my decision to the homemade garlic naan's as they were beautiful.
I am sure Amba's kitchen is now prominently my 'local' Indian go to!
Perhaps the most authentic Indian restaurant around Croydon area.
Being a foodie, I'm very picky about the quality and taste of the food and this place has never disappointed me with the food to die for.
I've tasted both Veg and non-veg starters and mains and all of them tasted very good, I can't pick any single favorite dish here as they must be tasted to truly appreciate it.
You chose any item from the menu, you can't go wrong.
However Biriyani at this place needs a special mention.
I've tried Biryanis at many places around London but biriyani here is undeniably the BEST dum biryani you can taste in London. It has got some magic touch to it.
My family and friends love the authentic taste of the food and also the ambience of the restaurant.
Staff are nice and professional and so is the owner himself. Very passionate bunch of people working at this place.
Certainly highly recommended place.
I visited with a big group on a bank holiday Monday and the restaurant was bustling and lively which is not surprising given the excellent food and friendly welcome from Amba himself as we arrived. The menu has a broad selection of South Indian dishes, all cooked to perfection with beautiful flavours, and you can choose how spicy you'd like them to be. The mango fish curry was a particular highlight for something new to me, but it was all delicious and as we were leaving several of the group commented on how they'd need to come back to try more of the food. All in all a very pleasant evening and thank you very much to Amba and team for making it such a success. We'll be back!
